One wall of my garage is designated the wall of our physical accomplishments. My son’s judo belts and my running bibs are on it.
This is a picture of the t-shirt I wore to last year’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. I put the names of the women I know that have fought breast cancer on it. I also included a few women that I don’t know, because my good friends asked me to.
The angel wings are for those… that are no longer with us.
At that point in my life, I hadn’t done any speed training. My average pace was about 10 mins/mile (for long runs). I did the 5k at about an 8.4 min/mile pace. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I did run with all my heart.
What was really special was that one of my best friends was walking with her mother (one of the women listed on my t-shirt) and as I was headed for the finish, I heard people screaming my name.
I turned, saw them, smiled and waved, and then finished strong.
